a) News from the Thoracic Endoscopy Unit
(i) Dr Jasminder Kaur, a Fellowship trainee from Institut Perubatan Respiratori, Kuala Lumpur spent one month with us in May 2009 to receive training in pleuroscopy and rigid bronchoscopy. During this period, she was actively involved in the care of out-patients and in-patients. She managed to perform a good number of pleuroscopy and rigid bronchoscopy and became competent in those procedures. We hope the experience will benefit her in the long term.

(ii) Dr Ariel Boongaling, consultant pulmonologist from the Philippines spent 2 months with us in June and July 2009 to receive training in pleuroscopy. We were pleased to have managed to share our expertise with a fellow colleague from South East Asia and look forward to him presenting his work with us at the Philippines College of Physicians.

(iii) Dr Richard Sue, American interventional pulmonologist from Arizona, USA was on holiday at Kota Kinabalu in September 2009. He discovered our centre on the internet and emailed Dr Jamalul Azizi as he was keen to collaborate with us. Dr Jamalul Azizi met Richard on 6 September to discuss issues pertaining to interventional pulmonology. Two days later, we had to perform an emergency tumour debulking in the airway and Dr Jamalul Azizi invited Richard to watch and assist. He commented "meeting us was definitely a highlight of his holiday in Malaysia". We look forward to further collaboration with him in future.

b) News from the Sleep Medicine and Pulmonary Physiology Units:
We hosted Mastura Johari and Mohd Syahmi from Prince Court Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur between 10 March to 3 April 2009. They were sent to us to train in sleep medicine and pulmonary physiology. We were honoured that Prince Court Medical Centre had chosen us for the training of their nurses and we were happy to transfer our expertise. We hope the training they received from us will help Prince Court Medical Centre.
