HEALTH PROMOTION – QUIT SMOKING
CLINIC
Respiratory Department is committed to reducing the
prevalence of smoking in the community. Our long term goal
is primary prevention of smoking. To this end, we
work in tandem with the public health to increase the
awareness of smoking hazards in the community. Dr Jamalul
Azizi went to Brisbane, Australia on April 2001 for one
month under the auspices of WHO to study the Australian
anti-smoking program.
The quit smoking
clinic is held every Thursday afternoon to help motivated smokers quit the
habit. Our quit clinic is run by
trained paramedics who provide counseling and nicotine
replacement therapy.
Data of our quit smoking clinic was presented for the first time by Dr Joseph Lee Han Kyun in Penang at the 9th annual Malaysian Thoracic Society Congress 14-16 July 2006. Please click here to read the poster.
Dr Jamalul Azizi presented the poster again at the Asia Regional Alliance for Smoking Cessation Meeting held in Seoul, South Korea 27-29 April 2007.
