OBJECTIVES
SCOPE: To provide comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services which are appropriate to current knowledge, national and international standards
QUALITY: To maintain the reliability of diagnostic and therapeutic services through continuing programmes of Quality Assurance, proficiency testing and preventive maintenance
UTILITY, RELEVANCE: To foster the development and clinical utility of diagnostic and therapeutic services through a continuing programme of critical evaluation, research and consultation with users
REPORTS: To ensure that reports are prompt, accurate in their interpretation of data, understandable and pertinent to the diagnostic issues raised
SAFETY: To ensure that tests and test equipments are safe for both patients and staff
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES: To ensure that emergency procedures and particularly cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques are taught and reviewed regularly
PATIENT CARE: To ensure that patients are treated in a courteous, caring and professional manner, are carefully instructed in performance of each test so that full cooperation is achieved
TRAINING: To ensure that all technical staff are adequately trained, skilled and competent in all diagnostic tests performed by them
COST EFFECTIVENESS: To improve efficiency and reduce costs by eliminating unnecessary procedures, automating data collection and analysis, refining procedures and continuously reviewing activity and costs
